Adaptive Learning Tools/Systems- Programs that adapt (change) the content and process of learning offered to learners on the basis of their response to questions and tasks
Analytics- Data generated by user engagement with content and assessment that can provide insight and guidance for intervention if required
Animations- A series of slightly different pictures, photos or illustrations that are viewed rapidly in succession to create the illusion of movement similar to that of a video or film.
Android- Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.
B
Bandwidth- The rate at which an internet connection can send and receive a volume of information
Broadband- Always-on internet access
Browser- A software program which provides access to web pages pages, e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)- Cascading Style Sheets are a feature of HTML that enables a range of styles for headers, body text, bullet points, links etc.
CMS- Abbreviation for Content Management System, a software package that makes it possible for non-technical users to publish content (text, images, etc) on a website.
Connectivity- The ability to connect with other computer devices via the internet

Desktop Computers- Also known as personal computers (PCs): designed to fit onto a desk top
Embedded- Placed in a computer file or program
ePDF- A digital document that is formatted as an embedded portable document (PDF stands for portable document format; commonly referred to as books behind glass, ePDFs are simply digitised versions of paper books

Formats- Arrangements of data in a file or program that allows it to perform certain unique functions

Gamification- Turning an experience into a game-like process by using elements of game design

HTML- HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup language for displaying web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.
I
iOs- iOS is Apple's mobile operating system.
iPad- The iPad is a tablet computer designed and developed by Apple. It is particularly marketed as a platform for audio and visual media.

Laptop Computers- Computers that are small enough to fit on the user’s lap and can perform all the same functions as desktop computers
M
Modification- The degree to which something is changed; in the context of SAMR, the learning tasks that are set are substantially different from those that are set without the benefit of digital tools
O
Offline- Not connected to the internet
Online- Connected to the internet
Panopto- Panopto is the University wide solution for capturing video and audio content for teaching, learning, research, and iTunes U.
Proxy Server- An online tool (also known as a gateway) which is applied to a private network (e.g., the University of Waikato) to re-direct its own users to selected websites (e.g., our subscription databases).
QR Code- QR is short for Quick Response and is a two dimensional bar code which can be read quickly by a cell phone or tablet device with a camera and QR reader application. They can be printed on paper or displayed on a screen and are used to encode small amounts of information such as a website URL, GPS location, product information or other useful short text.

SAMR- Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition): a framework for understanding the impact of digital tools on education
Smartphones- Mobile phones that are connected to the internet
Virtual Private Network- VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a remote access technology that allows you to connect to the University’s network using any internet connection - Worldwide.
W
Wireless (Wifi)- A way of transmitting information without cables that is reasonably fast.
WYSIWYG- Acronym for What You See Is What You Get, refers to what you see on the screen.
